Libby realizes that there can be no happy ending to this story. Either Decima was a pathetic victim of her father’s fury and a gross miscarriage of justice, or she was the cold-blooded murderess of her own siblings.
Whatever the truth, she appears to be taking out her anger on Libby, even managing to inflict physical harm on her hapless descendant.
But what is really happening at Hill Farm? Libby has upset quite a few people by supporting Lil when the general opinion is that she should go quietly to a hospice and die there. Is the culprit one of those angry with Libby’s interference? Is it Brendan, the boyfriend she dumped to run off to Derbyshire to be with Lil? Or is Libby simply losing her grip on reality? DI Piper is the one who has to discover the truth when he arrests her and listens to her incredible tale.

An interesting story full of interesting characters both good and bad. Evidently it has been reedited since originally published because, while there were a few instances of bad grammar, it wasn't overwhelmingly badly written. A nice little English mystery story.Product details

I agree with one of the other reviewers, did no one proof read this? Full of grammatical errors, missing words and misspellings. I am finding that to be true in other books by this author. If she is self publishing then she needs to work on using her spell check and grammar check programs. There is so much wrong with the behavior of the characters it is difficult to discuss it without giving away the book. Domestic violence excused, breaking and entering without contacting police and in the absence of that not even attempting to solve the security issue of the house. When she discovers the questions over the inheritance no attempt was made by anyone to involve an attorney to help with if not explanations, at least basic education on the structure of the will. Then after hanging in to the end, the author just tosses in the rag and ties everything up nice and neat. There were just too many weak points in a story that could easily have been fairly decent. Saying all that and having read several other books by this author, I think she could be very good if she keeps trying. I would suggest studying writers like Martha Grimes, Elizabeth George and best of all P.D.James.
It's not a "Detective Mystery" , per se. Most of the story is about a niece and her dying ain't looking into a family "mystery" , with bumps in the night,etc.
The ending is not a huge surprise to readers of a certain type of romance novel.
While the mystery of Decima is interesting and provides a link to the author’s other series, the notion that she us telling her story to Detective Piper doesn’t work. Just skip over all those sections and it can be a pretty good story. Libby is a bit of a twit with emotions all over the place, but Decima’s story is the real value in this book.
Excellent, excellent, excellent! Just finished reading Suzanne's THE DEVIL DRIVE A JAGUAR, a novel that was given to me. I think it's the mark of great author when they can take what is essentially quite a simple story and hold a reader's interest to the last page of a full-length novel. Libby gives up her London job to look after a dying aunt who insists she investigates a 150 year-old family mystery. The tension builds and builds as the past leaks into the present. Family tensions heighten as the truth slowly emerges, and the whole is told in an inclusive, 'over a cup of coffee' style that's a joy to read. Beautifully written and well edited. If you haven't read this one, folks, I can highly recommend it. Thank you, Suzanne for a great read.
Pretty good read despite some obvious typos. The few profanities could have been omitted easily with no loss to the story.
Boring and predictable. Poor grammar shows the lack of human editing. Not worth the time to read. A poorly written formula pulp mystery - without the cat!
What a story teller is our Miss Downes. I have to yet to be let down by one of her books. From start to finish this book Will keep you entertained.
